The Whole Cast of SICARIO Will Return for Its Sequel

This is no April Fool’s joke, we promise! The producers of last year’s hit Sicario confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the film’s stars — Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin — will all return for a sequel already in the works.

The original film received so much praise when it hit big screens last year that rumors of a sequel were almost immediate. According to Black Label Media’s Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill, those rumors are now a reality. There is a script being drafted by the original screenwriter, Taylor Sheridan, and all three stars are already signed to come back and reprise their rolls.

The THR interview is rife with juicy details, including this plot-based one: the focus of the sequel will be Benicio Del Toro’s assassin character, as was rumored, but the other stars will still play pivotal roles. Luckinbill specifically told them, “You have such a great character with Benicio, who was as dark as he was and still so loved. That character resonates so well with audiences. People want to know what happened to him, so it’s a perfect foray for us to explore.”

In addition to casting and plot confirmations, Smith and Luckinbill sing the praises of Sheridan’s ability to world build and talks about the current popularity of the western aesthetic this very modern story. You’re definitely going to want to check out the entire thing. As we wait for more details to come out on the sequel including potential titles, directors, and release dates, get excited to see these great actors return to their badass characters in the hopefully near future.
