THE TONIGHT SHOW Sees The Return of Jay Leno and Big Ratings

Jay Leno’s first return to The Tonight Show since Jimmy Fallon took over this past February saw a big ratings boost, with its highest Friday audience in eight months. Jay spent the night teasing Fallon good-naturedly and shared the guest spot with actress Lucy Liu.

Leno’s return to the seminal talk show was responsible for a massive ratings boost for Fallon’s run of The Tonight Show, giving it its highest Friday rating in eight months. It’s no surprise, however, that the popular host would attract such a massive amount of viewers, given his sad goodbye and the fact that he’s such a recognizable face in the television industry. Or, maybe people were just seeing if there’d be any sideways mentions of Conan O’Brien, though both guys are much too classy for that. Jimmy’s always all about positivity and good feels.

But if this guest spot left you reeling and wishing that The Tonight Show was still helmed by its former host, worry not! Jay can also be seen on the upcoming final episode of The Late Late Show, airing December 19. He will also be returning to network TV with his own show about automobiles on the CNBC network. Sounds like it could be interesting, a la Top Gear. Leno always did seem like the American Jeremy Clarkson anyway, what with their shared love of denim.

I love Jay and he was so funny. I loved the way he teased Jimmy and Jimmy took the ribbing as only Jimmy can! Want to see more! I don’t understand these Leno haters. The Conan debacle was NBC not Jay. NBC is not known for their good choices. Love Jay! Love Jimmy!

  2. Manuel says:

I personally changed that channel as soon as Leno showed up and didn’t return, I dislike Leno immensely

” …. In adult 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Tonight” scored a 1.2/6, equaling the show’s highest Friday figure since March 7 (1.5/6). …. ”

His appearance was terrible. It was corny. It was Leno. What do you expect? He came off as smug and full of himself as usual. The only reason the ratings went up was because Leno’s demographic, OLD PEOPLE tuned in, in droves.
