The Tom Hardy SPLINTER CELL Movie Gets A New Writer

Well, Tom Hardy’s dream of playing The Punisher may not have come true, but it seems his dream to actually get a Splinter Cell movie off the ground is still on track. Despite not having a director attached to the project after Doug Liman (Edge Of Tomorrow) left earlier this year, the film does have another writer attached to take a turn at the screenplay. Deadline has reported that New Regency Films and Ubisoft Motion Pictures are turning to Frank John Hughes for a new draft of their Splinter Cell adaptation. Hughes doesn’t have too extensive of a career as a scribe, with two little-known films to his name, but has accumulated more acting credits than anything else. This doesn’t mean he won’t have what it takes to churn out a worthwhile adaptation; it just means things may be stacked against him.

The film has already seen two other scripts coming from Erin Warren Singer (American Hustle) and Sheldon Turner (X-Men: First Class), but sadly it seems neither has made the cut. With Ubisoft taking an active role in the creation of the film, it is surprising to see that have not attempted to bring someone from the creative team of the game series over to take a crack at it for them. Hopefully with the backing of talents like Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed movie won’t run into nearly as many problems as Splinter Cell has. We wish you luck with finally getting this one rolling, Tom.
