Black people DO have the right to be upset by when homophobia is equated or compared to racism.

YES Both are repulsive, sometimes escalate into horrendous, too often fatal, hate crimes.
PLUS Homophobia outrageously is still grounds to legally discriminate.

BUT Only in the second half of our country’s long history were black people freed from being legally enslaved, trafficked like animals, completely denied freedom or ANY human rights

Im surprised empathetic as Todd is that he doesnt feel this. Its not about race / sexual preference. Its about the insensitivity of ignoring the incredible difference of scale between the two.

Black people are NOT disparaging gay causes in ANY way simply by not wanting gay injustices equated to those of human enslavement which black people themselves are only protected from it by circumstantial timing of their own birth.

Gay discrimination/ hate are not made any less despicable by acknowledging while inexcusable yet legal, they are not equitable or even comparable to people who only time protects form being enslaved.

    Certain aspects similar, yes.

    As a whole, no .

Just an FYI, that, “Johnny Cash,” song is really a Nine Inch Nails song.

Jen Kirkman needs to be on the show every other week, cause she is hilarious.

Loved this episode of the podcast.  I’ll follow Jen Kirkman anywhere, she’s so much fun.I’m very curious (and I may be in the total minority here), about that dog-poo song, the one with the bluesy piano that you were making fun of.  I may be alone on this, but I really liked that song, and I can’t figure out the title/artist.  I found the other “old timey” song, that one was easy to find on Youtube, but I’d really appreciate if anyone could direct me to the name of the one with the piano.  Thanx 🙂

Todd, I mostly agree with you when it comes down to “just agree that if you’re saying something that upsets some group of people you should just stop even if it seems harmless”.

I still have to ask about ugly people/people with unpleasant voices. It’s ridiculous to think about affirmative action for these universally reviled people, yet I think it’s just as important as black/gay/womens’s rights. Yet I see nobody (even you) including that group of people as deserving any defense.

That gay football player (sorry I forget his name) is brave, but nowhere near as brave as someone who might have done what he did when popular opinion was against him. I can’t say anything bad about him except I’m not sure he would have done it if it wasn’t so likely that popular opinion would be on his side.

    LOLZ!

Let’s see if you address this… Love your show.

    • William says:

You sound like you WANT to say something bad about the gay football player.  Isn’t the point that someone was finally able to do this?  Wasn’t Jackie Robinson brave?  Would it have been more meaningful if he had tried to go pro 15 years earlier when it WASN’T at all possible and got lynched?  Maybe, but the real milestone is when it’s finally successful, when we can finally openly say these people are equal and okay.  And that still isn’t the case for a large percentage of this country, amazingly.
