The Rolling Stones Are Releasing a New Album This Year

Life can be beastly and burdened, and you can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you can get new Rolling Stones records. We may even see one as soon as this year.

The Rolling Stones, the most enduring band of all-time, have announced that they’ll release yet another record. The British band last released a studio album in 2005. Now, 11 years later, they’re all still with us, they all still have hair (somehow), and they’re back in the studio.

“We went in to cut some new songs, which we did,” Ronnie Wood told the Associated Press. “But we got on a blues streak. We cut 11 blues in two days.” The 68-year-old guitarist, not too big on humility, explained that they recorded “extremely great cover versions of Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter, among other blues people. But they really sound authentic… When we heard them back after not hearing them for a couple of months, we were, ‘Who’s that? It’s you,'” Wood said. “It sounded so authentic.”

Hopefully that authenticity translates to the new record, which could arrive in 2016. Wood asserted that it’s coming “this year,” but fellow axe-man Keith Richards was less assuring. “There’s one coming,” he said of a new album. “I can’t say no more. My lips are sealed.”

The Stones haven’t been idle since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. They just completed a Latin American tour—which included a free concert in Cuba—and played at London’s Saatchi Gallery as part of “Exhibitionism”—a sprawling exhibition of the band’s 50+-year history.

No word yet on whether the new LP will be called The Biggest Bang, but given the Rolling Stones’ latest blues exploits, as well as their origins as a blues band, it’s probably safe to assume we’re getting hit with some sweet sweet blues.

Excited for the new record? Let us know in the comments.
