The Rock Sings a Song by Lin-Manuel Miranda in MOANA Clip

It’s Monday, which means we could all definitely use a little pick me up. That’s why we are very thankful for this unexpected shot of musical adrenaline we just got to help start the week, a clip of the song “You’re Welcome” from the upcoming animated Disney film Moana. The track is written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and sung by The Rock.

Dwayne Johnson first released the clip on his Instagram account, and it features his character, the very pleased with himself demigod Maui, letting the film’s young heroine Moana, know that he is responsible for many of the things in life that people are grateful for. Small things, like the sun, fire, and wind.

This boastfulness is consistent with what we have seen of Maui from the film’s trailers, and also from the first clip released from the movie last week, where Maui made it a point to make sure Moana (voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho) didn’t forget his many, many titles. Though she doesn’t appear to be as impressed with him as he is with himself.

Word is The Rock will be releasing more clips soon on his Instagram account showing behind-the-scenes looks at his recording of the song with Lin-Manuel Miranda, so you might want to keep an eye out on his Instagram page for those.

The film, set in the Pacific, tells the story of an “adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people,” and convinces a less than eager Maui to help her. Moana doesn’t come to theaters for another month though, on November 23rd, so we’ll have to be thankful we got this peek at “You’re Welcome” now.

What do you think of the song? What are you expecting from the film? Give us a peek at your thoughts in the comments below.
