Maybe you thought The Revenant was a little slow at times. Or maybe you found it too realistically brutal to watch certain scenes. Heck, maybe you just thought there was way too much talking (uh…). If you had any or all of these problems, then we have the answer for you: turn the whole thing into a silent movie.
In the latest edition of the genre recut series “Trailer Mix” from Mashable Watercooler, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Hugh Glass seems to be having a lot more good-spirited fun during his bloodthirsty quest for survival and vengeance as The Revenant gets re-imagined as a Harold Lloyd-era silent film. I mean, when you speed things up, add an old-timey piano score, and drop the dialogue for some succinct text cards asking questions like, “Can our hero survive?” everything just seems a lot less serious and gruesome and a lot more lighthearted and pleasant.
Even being mauled by a bear (my literal, actual number two fear in life after falling into the Sarlacc Pit), doesn’t seem so bad when given the silent movie treatment. That bear just looks like he’s playing around with Leo, not trying to rip him in half. Besides, how horrible can it really be when the text card pops up and says, “Oh no, a bear!” Every movie should find a way to incorporate that phrase.
“The incredible true story of a handsome man crawling through the woods” should make it onto the Blu-ray cover as well.
