In less than two weeks, Jon Bernthalâs Punisher is shooting his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the second season of Daredevil. And while early images of Bernthal as Frank Castle didnât feature the characterâs iconic skull shirt, it looks like Bernthal will go into full Punisher mode by the end of the 13-episode season.
Netflix and Marvel TV have released a new Daredevil season 2 poster that features Bernthal in costume as the Punisher alongside images of Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Elodie Yung as Elektra.
Note that Castleâs face appears to be injured, and his skull insignia looks like it was spray-painted on. But for the most part, it appears to be very true to the spirit of the Punisherâs classic costume. If Daredevil season 2 follows Castleâs progression as the Punisher, he may choose that skull icon as a response to Daredevilâs attempt to be a heroic symbol for the city.
When the Punisher was first adapted into a feature film back in 1989, Dolph Lundgrenâs Frank Castle never wore the skull shirt because the producers reportedly felt it looked too âcomic booky.â Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson got to wear the skull in The Punisher and Punisher: War Journal, respectively, though.
Daredevil season 2 will mark the first time that the Punisher has appeared in live-action alongside another Marvel hero. There are even frequent rumors that Bernthalâs Punisher could get his own Netflix series, despite the recent denial issued by Marvel TVâs Jeph Loeb.
Netflix will premiere Daredevil season 2 on Friday, March 18.
