The POKÉMON World Championships Are Almost Here!

The Pokémon World Championships are set to hit Boston’s John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center this August 21-23. With that date inching closer, the Pokémon Company has unveiled how Pocket Monster-loving fans will be able to watch the event as it unfolds.

Live streams will be available via both the Pokémon Twitch channel and the official Pokémon World Championship web page. You can catch the opening ceremony and a whole day dedicated to video game and Trading Card Game (TCG) action, starting Friday August 21, at 6 AM ET. If you’re only interested in checking out the final matches, the TCG Championships will begin on Sunday, August 23, at 6 AM PT, and will be followed immediately by the Video Game Championships’ final matches.

Aside from claiming the sweet title of Pokémon Master, the folks competing will be fighting for a share of more than $500,000 in scholarship awards and prizes. Those who come out on top as a Pokémon Video Game World Champion will win $10,000 in scholarship money, while victorious TCG Champions will score $25,000.

While being able to compete in the Championships themselves is invite-only, players who don’t fall in that category will still be able to compete in side events, watch the main event, or participate in other activities.

The Pokémon company also revealed this year’s Pikachu plush in all of its adorable, swash-buckling, mustachioed cuteness via Instagram. Just look at him! He has a lightning bolt shaped mustache and a tiny hat!
