THE ORIGINALS Boss Reveals We Might Not Have Seen the Last of Kol

Davina (Danielle Campbell) has not had the best of luck in the romance department on The Originals—but that all might be changing soon.

After watching her first love Tim (Shane Coffey) die, compelled by Klaus (Joseph Morgan) to kill himself, Davina later fell for Kaleb (Daniel Sharman), whom she thought was a witch but turned out to be the Original brother Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) in a witch’s body. Once she learned his true identity, the two fell in love—only to be torn apart when Kol was cursed to die by his brother Finn in Vincent’s body (Yusuf Gatewood). Davina tried to bring Kol back to life, but her one-time-only spell was hijacked by Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus. How rude!

But don’t give up on hope on “Kolvina” just yet! The Originals executive producer Michael Narducci revealed to Nerdist that Davina is still holding onto the belief that she can bring him back.

“She’s going to have a tough road ahead of her,” Narducci says. “There are people that want Davina very badly on their team and they might not be the best of people, and at the same time, very much in the back of her mind is this notion of, ‘Besides Marcel [Charles Michael Davis] and my friend Josh [Steven Krueger] and my friend Cami [Leah Pipes], the only romantic interest I’ve had, the person who I’ve trusted the most was this 1,000-year-old witch named Kol Mikaelson. He’s dead, and the whole reason I became a Regent is because I thought I could bring him back. Where is he now? What’s going on with him? When do I see him again?'”

While this particular storyline has been on the backburner so far this season, Narducci teases that it might rear its head again soon.

“Has she given up on her drive to save his life and bring him back and have a true ally who loves her when maybe nobody else has? I don’t think we should give up on that drive,” Narducci says. “I think that’s still there, so she has pretty big role to play in that storyline.”

The Originals

And though the witch storyline has so far been separate from the rest of the show’s stories this season, expect it to merge with the central conflict soon, but “not in the way that we suspect.”

“We’ve done a lot of French Quarter witch stuff, and we’re still going to see the politics of the witch Regent and the role of Vincent, who is a lapsed witch who refuses to participate in that political world or in using magic,” Narducci says. “But at the same time there’s also the threat posed by this vampire secret society [The Strix]. I remember Grams [Jasmine Guy] always saying that witches should stay out of vampire business, but there are maybe witches in the world who go the other direction.”

He continues, “And if there were, maybe it would be The Strix who those witches would be the most in league with; the powerful witches of this world would be in league with the powerful vampires of this world. Who’s going to get sucked into that world and who’s going to be run over by a mack truck? That’s headed down on our show.”
