THE NIGHT MANAGER: Tom Hiddleston as a Super Spy

Intrigue, arms dealers, and attractive men with gorgeous art direction: All the things the trailer to Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie‘s new BBC drama The Night Manager promises. Take a second and see what you think above.

The show is an adaptation of John Le Carré‘s novel of the same name. Hiddleston plays an ex-soldier who embeds at a hotel as the night manager to infiltrate and bring down a notorious arms dealer. Hugh Laurie plays that role, and from the trailer alone, it’s safe to say we are in for an exciting and possibly unpredictable tale of intrigue, double cross, and high stakes mystery. Rounding out the stellar cast are Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Debicki, and Tom Hollander.

The trailer is stunning, and I’m looking forward to seeing Hiddleston in what looks like a piece that does not require him to wear a cravat (not that he doesn’t look great in one), and has modern technologies at his fingertips. There’s something thrilling too about seeing Hugh Laurie, who I always equate with kindness or curmudgeonliness, perform a role that may strike fear into hearts. Neither characters sound like they are messing around with the very real consequences of their actions in this one.

The Night Manager will air here in the United States on AMC sometime this year, though no exact premiere date has been announced. Officially, the 6 episode miniseries will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival this year alongside a few other notable television projects.
