A few weeks back in the middle of June, the first teaser for Fargo‘s second season landed on a tree and pecked its way through a smattering of background gunshots. Today, the series’ first 30-second trailer gives us a glimpse at more of the series than Thursday’s previous two teasers. Ted Danson, Patrick Wilson, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons take center stage as the series four primary leads, with the trailer also giving us a glimpse at Jean Smart and Jeffrey Donovan.
The series is set years before the first season, while Lou Solverson was serving on the Bemidji police force. Fans of the first installment will know that his daughter Molly served as the moral center of the series while she was investigating the peculiar murders in and around Bemidji. The second season sees the younger Lou played by Patrick Wilson, while his chief, Hank Larsson is played by Ted Danson. Danson is no stranger to well-crafted cable drama, having starred alongside Glenn Close and Rose Byrne in Damages. Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) appear to be serving as a one-two punch of Lester Nygaard: the locals with a murderous secret. Jean Smart (Sirens) and Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice) are also appearing as mother and son â according to IMDB â but their role in the narrative has yet to be revealed.
Thursday’s teasers highlight the silent relationship between Solverson and Larsson and the visual reminders of Dunst’s character, Peggy Blomquist’s criminal misdeeds. Peggy is a hairdresser, and as she’s washing the red hair dye from her hands before returning to her client, we see the red swirling in the sink, leading us to believe this most likely won’t be the only time we see Peggy scrubbing red from her hands. The name of the Blomquist teaser (“Curl Up N’ Dye”) is also one of the best hair-related puns, and that’s just a scientific fact.
