Do you like PlayStation? Do you like Tokyo? How about game shows? If the answers yes to any of these, you just hit the jackpot, because today’s Chobot-less episode of Nerdist News is all about the jam-packed PlayStation TGS conference that went down very earlier this morning. Join Dan and Malik as they fan out over their favorite bits an pieces from the media briefing, and make sure to leave your thoughts on the upcoming PlayStation goodness in the comments. After skipping a press briefing during Gamescom this year, we’ve been itching to hear more about what’s coming down the pipeline for Sony’s PlayStation 4 and the severely neglected Vita. Though neither Persona V or The Last Guardian were mentioned during the conference, we did receive a ton of exciting announcements such as: an upcoming Bloodborne Expansion, Kingdom Hearts II.8, Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2 coming to the PS4, a new Danganronpa title, a competitive shooter in the Resident Evil setting and a bunch of Japanese RPGs that may or may not be localized in the states. There’s a lot of stuff to get through, so let’s get cracking.
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters coming this November.
We already knew we’d be getting DLC for From Software’s PlayStation-exclusive Bloodborne, and now we’ve finally learned more information. The expansion, titled The Old Hunters, will be launching on November 24 of this year for $19.99. There will also be an Old Hunters edition of the game made available on December 3. Details were slim on the upcoming DLC, but we were gifted a pretty sweet trailer (above) featuring a Kirk Hammer-esque spinning saw weapon and an awesome looking bow. I loved Bloodborne, so I can’t wait to get my hands on this.
Gravity Rush Remastered coming to PS4 February 2016, Sequel on the way
I feel like a lot of people don’t know about Gravity Rush, so I’m glad the once Vita-exclusive title is getting remastered for the PS4. The game will be releasing on February 9, 2016, with all three original DLC packs included. Sony released a trailer for the game during the press conference. According to the PlayStation Blog, the PS4 version will be titled Gravity Rush Remastered when it launches in the states.
On top of making her PS4 debut next February, Kat will be coming back for a brand new adventure in a sequel which is slated for release sometime next year. Check out the Gravity Rush 2 footage shown off at the conference above.
It’s been three years since the first game released on the PS Vita. The game’s director, as well as Sony Japan Studio, have been hinting at a sequel for the past two years. Now we finally have our answer, and judging by the footage above, it looks like the title is pretty far along.
There’s also a Gravity Rush Collector’s Edition on the way. It comes with a Kat figure, and we want it. We want it SO BAD.
Bandai Namco announces One Piece: Burning Blood for PS4/Vita
During Namco’s time on stage, they announced the brand new title One Piece: Burning Blood, which is set to hit Japanese store shelves in 2016. From the looks of the video they showed off during the press conference, the title looks to be a one-on-one fighter in the vein of the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series.
Series favorites like Luffy, Ace, Crocodile, Doflamingo, Sabo and Enuru all made an appearance in the title’s trailer. There’s no mention whether or not the title will be localized, but knowing Bandai Namco, we’ll probably hear about that soon.
The game will be releasing on both PS4 and Vita.
PS4 Exclusive Nioh to release in 2016.
After making us wait about 10 years to hear more, we received information that Nioh–which was originally supposed to be a PS3 exclusive–will be coming to the PS4 sometime next year. This bit of news was served up alongside a rather moody trailer (above) featuring weighty Samurai combat, and a color palette reminiscent of Bloodborne. Â
Like several other titles announced during the conference, there was unfortunately no mention of localization. I was actually pretty into what they showed off, so hopefully they decide to bring this out west.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue coming to PS4 in 2016
Though they didn’t talk about Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix did announce a prequel to the game which they’re calling Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue. Yes, really. The title will include three titles: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance,Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, and  Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep–A Fragmentary Passage, and will be coming to the PS4 in 2016.
A Fragmentary Passage, is described by Square Enix as a “completely new playable episode” which will link Kingdom Hearts 3 and will take place after Birth By Sleep. It will take place from Aqua’s perspective.
As for Back Cover, Square explained that it is a new movie that “tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers, connecting the earliest parts of the series’ history,” which is connected to the mobile title Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ.
Danganronpa V3 announced for PS4 and Vita
This one doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, considering the developer was hinting at a TGS announcement on Twitter, but it doesn’t change how excited we are. The Danganronpa series is making its PS4 debut with a brand new title called Danganronpa V3!
Spike Chunsoft also brought a Monokuma-filled trailer (above) to the conference. Details on the title were slim, but if it’s anything like the first two, we can’t wait to hear more.
The King of Fighters XIV Announced
Are you ready for this one? The legendary King of Fighters franchise will be making its PS4 debut with The King of Fighters XIV. Alongside the exciting news, developer SNK Playmore also premiered a short trailer for the title. Check it out above.
At this point, it’s unclear whether the title will be exclusive to the PS4. We should find out more soon.
Competitive Shooter Resident Evil Umbrella Corps is coming to the PS4 Next Year
It’s hard to keep up with all of the recent remasters and entries in the Resident Evil series. As Capcom pointed out during Sony’s press conference, we’re coming up on the franchise’s 20th anniversary. In commemoration of the series’ birthday, the developer unveiled a special logo, and a competitive shooter set in the Resident Evil world titled Resident Evil Umbrella Corps.
I’m not sure what to think of the trailer and the company’s venture into the competitive shooter genre, but hopefully it turns out alright. It screams Call of Duty to me, but hopefully they can bring something different to the table.
The game will be releasing on the PS4 in 2016.
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate to get Jack the Ripper DLC
Surprise, surprise! Jack the Ripper is coming to Ubisoft’s Victorian London-set Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. The bad news: you’ll only able to play it if you own the game’s season pass.
It’s unclear how the infamous murderer will be used in the DLC, but the assumption is that you’ll be hunting him down and assassinating him. I’ve been intrigued about the title since it’s original announcement. Twin assassins (one female), Victorian London, fighting atop carriages, and now, Jack the Ripper. I can’t wait.
SEGA announced two Yakuza titles.
Welp, it looks like we’ll be getting two Yakuza titles on the PS4. When Sega took the stage during the press conference, they announced Yakuza: Kiwami, which is a remake of the original title, and Yakuza 6. The developer also debuted the above trailer for Yakuza: Kiwami and launched a teaser site for the game.
They’re keeping details on Yakuza 6 pretty close to the chest for now, but promised to reveal more during the show this week. We’ll be updating you as news comes in, so be sure to keep it locked here on Nerdist.
The PS4 is getting a massive price drop in Japan.
Sony also made a surprise announcement about the PlayStation 4 console. During the press conference, they revealed that the PS4 would be getting a price drop from ¥39,980 to ¥34,980. As of right now, the price is only being slashed, but for comparison purposes, that puts the system at $292, which is down from $400. The new price will be available beginning October 1 in Japan.
There’s no word on whether or not a similar cut will be making its way to other regions, but there’s still time for that. It’s hard to believe that we’re already coming up on the system’s 2 year anniversary.
Project Morpheus is now known as PlayStation VR.
Additionally, the company finally unveiled Project Morpheus’ official name. From this point forward, the virtual reality peripheral will be known as PlayStation VR. It’s not the most creative name, but at least it means we’re getting closer  to launch.
Also, they noted that several titles like Dangonronpa VR and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be playable on the device. There were a few other titles listed, with a strong emphasis on “few”. This thing needs more games! Hopefully we hear more in the next few months. EGX is just around the corner, so the company still has time.
