THE MUPPETS Posters Promise Full Frontal Nudity

Ah, the Muppets. However one feels about their two most recent, Disney-produced big-screen adventures, it’s terrific to see them finally returning to the medium that made them superstars. But those who fear the Mouse House will hamper the wiseass irreverence of our favorite foam-and-felt friends when their new TV sitcom debuts on the Disney-owned ABC on September 22nd need to check out the network’s latest posters promoting The Muppets, in which the Jim Henson creations demonstrate more cheek than ever before…

While Kermit’s poster is obviously the most outrageous of the bunch (just what is he drinking?), I find the image of Fozzie having his fur removed to be even more…unnerving. Like I’m seeing something mankind was never meant to see. The Muppets promises to be a more “adult” take on the characters than we’ve seen of late, one that focuses more on their personal lives. It’s thus something of an experiment. After all, the original Muppet Show was equally loved by children and adults, so it will be interesting to see just how much this new iteration skews towards the latter. Will Sam the Eagle appear on Fox News? Will Animal finally gorge on the flesh of the living?

In any case, Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (Anger Management) are co-writers and executive producers. And Randall Einhorn (Wilfred), Bill Barretta, Debbie McClellan, and Kyle Laughlin are also executive producers.
