THE MONSTER PROJECT Turns Kids Drawings Into Real Monsters

Imagination is one of the most powerful things children have at their disposal, but as time goes on, life tends to get in the way and often leads to them losing more and more of that imagination. That’s what a collection of artists from around the world are looking to change with The Monster Project. Seeking to nurture a child’s use of their internal creativity—while simultaneously showing what an active imagination can lead to down the road as far as careers are ensured—the collective launched a Kickstarter to fund their campaign.

The project invites school children to design their own original monster and draw it. That drawing is then taken by one of the artists involved in the project, which they use to create their own interpretation of the child’s monster. The original drawing, as well as the professionally rendered version, are then returned to the child. There really is no fancy way of putting it: the project—and the art it creates—is simply awesome.

But why do it? Well, the Kickstart explains it fairly simply: “With a decreasing emphasis on arts in schools, many children don’t have the opportunity for creative exploration they deserve. That’s a monstrous trend we would like to destroy. As artists ourselves, we understand how important that initial creative exposure is and how it can truly alter the shape of a child’s future.”

Take a look at some of the art that the Project has already created in the gallery below, and if you are interested in helping the project out check out their Kickstarter page here or their website here. As always, let us know what you think in the comments below!
