A GAME OF THRONES Character Return Hints at Possible Season 6 Battle

Alright! All ye who enter this post, take note: there are major Game of Thrones spoilers ahead when it comes to season six. If you haven’t read the books or prefer to know nothing about what’s to come during this largely uncharted season (allegedly!), turn away now. MMKAY?

Now that all the riffraff is done, let’s get right down to it. Apparently, a character we’ve not seen since the dreaded Red Wedding—uncle and current patriarch for House Tully, Brynden “The Blackfish—is returning to the series next season. Spotted by sources close to Spanish Thrones fansite Los Siete Reinos, The Blackfish’s return not only signifies a return to the West, but also gives us some major clues and confirmations about what may end up being one of the season’s bigger battle scenes. For book readers, you likely know it well: the siege at Riverrun.

For a bit of context, the last time we saw The Blackfish, he was leaving the wedding hall shenanigans right before Walder Frey kicked that party up to eleven with that good ol’ fashioned party anthem, “The Rains of Castemere.” Because his body was never found in the aftermath of that emotional clusterf—k, it was assumed by one and all that he teetered back down to Riverrun to hold it down for Team Tully, lest the Lannister/Frey alliance have its way. In the books, Jaime Lannister and Ser Ilyn Payne are sent to Riverrun to get The Blackfish right the eff out of there, only to begin an epic battle when Brynden’s all “nah, we’re good.”

Naturally, this will most certainly appease bookeaders who were none-too-pleased to see Jaime ship off to Dorne last season rather than the ‘run. TV fans will also be happy to know that—allegedly!—it’ll be Ser Bronn going on his merry way with Jaime instead of the mute meanie who loves to murder in the name of the Iron Throne.

Oh and if you’re feeling extra-spoiler-y, why not peep this Nerdist News about another member of the Tully family’s possible return:

So what say you, Throne-iacs? (Also sorry for calling you that.) Let us know in the comments below!
