THE MARTIAN Trailer Finds Matt Damon Alone on Mars

This fall, Matt Damon will portray Mark Watney, an astronaut who is stranded on Mars in director Ridley Scott’s newest film, The Martian. And Watney has no intention of being the first man to die on the Red Planet.

The first trailer for The Martian was released this morning by 20th Century Fox, and it offers up a glimpse of how Watney plans to survive on Mars; which includes this instantly classic piece of dialogue: “In the face of overwhelming odds, I’m left with only one option. I’m gonna have to Science the s*** out of this.”

For the first time, the trailer also introduces the Earthbound cast members led by Jeff Daniels as NASA Director Teddy Sanders and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Venkat Kapoor, the Director of the Mars Mission. Additionally, the trailer hints at the dilemma that Watney’s crew will have to confront. Should they defy their orders and stage a risky rescue mission? Or should they abandon their friend and comrade to death?

Yesterday, a prologue for The Martian was released that introduced Watney’s crew: Dr. Chris Beck (Sebastian Stan), Alex Vogel (Aksel Hennie), Beth Johanson (Kate Mara), Rick Martinez (Michael Peña); and Commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain).

The upcoming film was adapted by Drew Goddard (Daredevil) from the best-selling novel of the same name by Andy Weir. The Martian will be released on November 25, 2015.
