THE MARTIAN Crew is Tested in a New Video

In director Ridley Scott’s upcoming adaptation of The Martian, Matt Damon’s Mark Watney will face the ultimate endurance test when he is stranded on Mars. Watney’s crew will face their own trials, as they try to figure out how to rescue him—and if they should—but a newly released video from The Martian offers more insights into Watney and his crew.

The backstory of this video is that each member of the crew was placed in isolation for ten days before undergoing a psychological evaluation by NASA. Watney goes first, but the only revelation that he provides is that he can’t stop thinking about Aquaman’s ability to control whales and why he shouldn’t be able to. Also featured in the video are brief sessions with Commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), Major Rick Martinez (Michael Peña), Dr. Chris Beck (Sebastian Stan), Alex Vogel (Aksel Hennie) and Beth Johanssen (Kate Mara).

While Vogel’s comments are by far the most hilarious, Johanssen reveals that she has a keen understanding of her crewmates and their personality traits. And yes, Commander Lewis’ response is pretty badass.

The Martian was written by Andy Weir, who self-published his novel online in 2011 before it was picked up by Crown Publishing and optioned as a movie, with Drew Goddard (Daredevil) adapting The Martian for film. The first trailer for The Martian was released earlier this year, and it can be seen below.

20th Century Fox will release The Martian on Friday, October 2.

Movie fans, are you excited about the upcoming adaptation of The Martian? And how the hell does Aquaman control whales? Geoff Johns, we’re looking at you for answers!
