The Making of the DOCTOR WHO/ABBEY ROAD Photo

Taking a perfect picture is not easy – just ask all the billion people who snap and scrub a selfie on their way to the store or whatever. Stuff like that doesn’t just happen immediately. Last weekend, to coincide with the premiere of Series 9 of Doctor Who, stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman were joined by a pair of Daleks to recreate the Beatles‘ legendary album cover to their final recorded album, Abbey Road. It’s a really great pic, right? Naturally, the Doctor Who team had a good long while to get it perfect, right?

Nope. They had 1 minute and 18 seconds to take the picture. Abbey Road may be an iconic location in London, but it’s still a road and cars still need to drive on it. As you can see from the above video, the crew had to move faster than the Doctor’s brain in order to get the shot they needed. From lining up the Daleks just so to making sure Capaldi and Coleman had just the right leg and head movement, this all had to go off without a hitch. And you can tell from the end of the video, Capaldi and a couple of guys had to push the Daleks out of the road just as a car was coming up. Traffic stops for no one.

It was worth it, though, yeah? Who’s got that image as their background this second?

And be sure to check out my review of “The Witch’s Familiar” this Saturday following the East Coast airing on BBC America.
