THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Re-Imagined as THE HATEFUL EIGHT

The movie world is abuzz with the new trailer for Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming cowboy action flick The Hateful Eight and boy do we have questions. What will the roles of each Tarantino film alumni be exactly? How will this work into the Tarantino-verse? And will Quentin still somehow work his creepy foot fetish into this film? The answers to those questions are – in order – “Who knows”, “Ancestors, probably?”, and [dry heave] “Of course, we all know it wouldn’t be a Tarantino film unless it had at least one foot related scene”

YouTuber Bobby Burns, who has his own opinions on Tarantino films, re-imagined the classic 1960 western The Magnificent Seven in a very Tarantino-esque manner. It’s quite surprising how, with creative editing, this updated trailer for a film made more than 50 years ago seems like it could be coming out in this day and age. As we’ve mentioned before, Sony is re-making The Magnificent Seven and is slated for a 2016 release. There’s surely lots to debate about the remake, especially considering the 1960 version is itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, but somehow this re-cut trailer makes me feel slightly better about the upcoming version.

While a sincere Tarantino Magnificent Seven is – fingers crossed – NEVER going to happen, I can’t help but think of what it could be in the right hands. The trailer for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s next film, The Revenant, has got me all sorts of excited for gritty civil war era survival/revenge films so in the right hands, a Magnificent Seven remake could show promise. Just as long as it doesn’t get called “Mag-7”.
