THE LITTLE PRINCE Trailer Will Tug at Your Heartstrings

Back in March, we reported that Paramount Pictures had dropped as the distributor of The Little Prince with just one week before its theatrical release. Netflix promptly picked it and will release it for streaming on August 5. Today, the streaming service has posted the trailer for the film on their YouTube page.

This version tells the story of Jessica Riley, who, thanks to a controlling mother, is spending the summer on a strict studying regimen to prepare for a prestigious school. Jessica eventually befriends her next door neighbor, an old aviator, who tells her stories of a prince he met on one of his adventures. After a falling out with her mother, Jessica begins her OWN adventure to find the Little Prince herself.

The film is a mixture of computer animation (when in Jessica’s world) and stop-motion animation (when in the Prince’s world). I am fascinated by this take on the story. Rather than have a straight movie adaptation of the 1943 Antoine de Saint-Exupéry book, they used the story of the Little Prince to tell a “Story within the story.” I will admit, after watching my French teacher bawl her eyes out while reading this to us in class, I have a soft spot for The Little Prince.

The Little Prince, directed by Mark Osborne, stars Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Paul Rudd, Mackenzie Foy, and Riley Osborne.
