The Latest Broadway HEDWIG? Why That’d Be Michael C. Hall and His ANGRY INCH

Sometimes, when this particular author is feeling blue, all it takes is a little bit of David Fisher daydreaming to set her mood alight. His Six Feet Under dancing days were often equal parts charming, funny, and delightful — even in their darker moments — largely thanks to the actor who embodied the character: Michael C. Hall. So obviously — obviously! — his is the next name on the successor sheet for the titular role in Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Yes, praise the theater Gods (erm, Goddesses? Liza Minnelli?), the latest news is true: at the exit of Andrew Rannells, who took over from Neil Patrick Harris, Michael C. Hall will return to Broadway at last. Hallelu!

Hall’s first appearance in the role will be on October 16, 2014 at the production’s Belasco Theatre home. Merely a limited engagement, unfortunately, the actor will finish his run on January 4, 2015.

If you were somehow unaware, Hall is no stranger to the Broadway stage, having made his debut as the emcee in a 1999 production of Cabaret, and again took to the Great White Way as Chicago‘s Billy Flynn in 2002. And that’s just his musical stuff: earlier this year the actor also starred in a seriously star-studded play, Will Eno’s Broadway production of The Realistic Jones, which co-starred Toni Collette, Tracy Letts, and Marisa Tomei.

So if you had any doubts as to Hall’s ability to strap on those platform heels, fear not: if anything he’s the most inspired choice for the role thus far. In fact we may just have to check it out when we’re in New York in November.

Who do you think will be the best Hedwig? Harris, Rannells, or Hall? Let ’em duke it out in the comments.
