THE LAST GUARDIAN Gets Emotional E3 Trailer & Official Release Date

After what feels like eons of delays, The Last Guardian finally has a release date. We’ve been waiting for nearly seven years for this title and have been champing at the bit for more ever since Sony shared a beautiful gameplay trailer at last year’s E3. And tonight, at their E3 2016 press conference, the publisher shared another evocative trailer and finally announced that after seven years, the game will be released for PlayStation 4 on October 25, 2016.

The Last Guardian completes the trilogy that began with Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. It tells the story of a boy who’s been kidnapped and kept in an ancient castle until he discovers a giant Griffin-esque creature named Trico. (“Trico” can roughly be translated to “prisoner,” or “bird-cat.”) The third-person action-adventure puzzle game explores the relationship and growing friendship between the boy and his gentle friend, and based on the new trailer I have a feeling we will be absolutely destroyed by the end.

The new trailer shows something soaring through the skies, sweeping through ruins amongst the clouds. Trico is shown chained up and afraid but also protecting the boy. There’s a scene where Trico is clearly hurt and the boy is comforting him and are your wings broken? And… no, I’m not crying, YOU’RE CRYING.

If this game is anything like the trailers suggest, it’s going to collectively break the world’s hearts this fall. We’re not sure if we can take it, but we can’t wait to meet Trico and find out.

What did you think of the trailer? Did you too have flashbacks to Artax in The Neverending Story? Let us know in the comments below.
