THE KARATE KID Returns to Theaters with 2 COBRA KAI Episodes

Earlier this week, The Karate Kid‘s decades old rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) was rekindled in a new trailer for Cobra Kai, a new YouTube Red original series. Now, a new generation of fans will get a chance to see Daniel and Johnny’s origin on the big screen for one night only.

Fathom Events is bringing The Karate Kid and the first two episodes of Cobra Kai to 700 theaters across the country on Wednesday, April 25. The Karate Kid was originally released in 1984 and quickly became one of the fan-favorite films of the year. It starred the late Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi—a karate master who took Daniel under his wing when Johnny and his fellow Cobra Kai dojo members endlessly harassed him—and culminated in a showdown at the All-Valley Karate Tournament victory, which is still internet famous for its “sweep the leg” moment.

Cobra Kai takes place 34 years later, with Johnny in the lead and Daniel as his antagonist. Despite Daniel’s experiences in the first two Karate Kid sequels (or perhaps because of them), he’s let his victory over Johnny get to his head. Now, Daniel is a car salesman who is best known for karate chopping prices in TV ads while Johnny is just a loser in life. However, Johnny’s decision to reopen the Cobra Kai dojo will once again bring his conflict with Daniel to the forefront.

Tickets for The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai double feature will go on sale this Friday, March 23. Cobra Kai will premiere on May 2, only on YouTube Red.
