Geeky fashion has been making waves for a while, but so far the embrace of classic characters has been mostly limited to kids’ clothing and the occasional runway special like last year’s Star Wars gowns. That’s all changing now, though, as the Parisian fashion house Kenzo has partnered with Disney for a special capsule collection inspired by the upcoming release of a live-action reboot of The Jungle Book.
Designers for the famous fashion house dug into the archives of Disney‘s animation studio to find patterns, characters, and motifs in the original drawings used on the early animated film. The ready-to-wear pieces feature vibrant jungle-inspired designs and references to the classic story’s characters Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, King Louie, and more. There will also be selections of sweaters and t-shirts in this collection that feature the new imagining of the story’s antagonist Shere Khan the tiger from the 2016 film that opens in theaters in the next few weeks. Kenzo’s signature motif also features a tiger, so the draw to the character is understandable.
The line of ready-to-wear pieces were made available in Kenzo’s brick and mortar store fronts on April 1, as well as select department store retailers in New York City, London, Milan, and Berlin. If you can’t happen to make it to one of the stores or the cities in question, the designs will also be available on Kenzo’s website starting April 7.
The Jungle Book starring Neel Sethi as Mowgli, Bill Murray, Lupita Nyongâo, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, and Ben Kingsley opens on April 15. Tell us what you think of the designs and which one your hoping to add to your closet first in the comments below.
