THE HYPOTHETICAL STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL Will Have you Laugh on Purpose

The Star Wars Holiday Special, broadcast for the first time in 1978, will go down in history as one of the worst things to come out of the Star Wars Universe (and that includes the prequels if that tells you anything). If you are able to find a bootleg copy at a convention or catch it on YouTube, prepare yourself for 90 minutes of cringeworthy “fun.” Oh, and don’t get me started on the entire first 15 minutes where Wookiees talk to one another without subtitles.

Thanks to Funny or Die, we now have a Star Wars Holiday Special we all…deserve?

Taking nothing but what they’ve gathered from the trailers and fan speculation, Funny or Die has created The Hypothetical Star Wars Holiday Special. In this, Kylo Ren is trying to get BB-8 home to his family for “Droid Day” before Captain Phasma and her Stormtroopers end BB-8’s family once and for all. Wait, aren’t Ren and Phasma on the same team? I though BB-8 was a good guy? Well, since the movie hasn’t come out yet, everyone’s just taking a guess.

The parody of the original special even includes a cartoon in the middle, with Poe trying to meet up with Rey and Finn. Why do they meet up? How do they know each other? We don’t know, which is okay because they don’t know either.

After a heartwarming conclusion, the video ends with a performance by rock band Train and their new song created specifically for the special, “CL-BR8.” Will it make you cover your eyes with embarrassment? Yes, but it’s supposed to this time.

So what do you think? Will the new Holiday Special make it into your viewing rotation like Christmas Vacation or Die Hard? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
