Dad Taped Son Watching STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE For the 1st Time and It’s Great

It’s been almost 40 years since the first Star Wars film was released in 1977, and here we are about to get our seventh film with The Force Awakens. This is not only a franchise that has been an important part of people’s lives since they were a kid, but one that they can now pass down to their own children while experiencing new things together. But it has to start somewhere, and that’s just what this dad did when he sat his son down to watch the first movie, and he taped it so we could experience it with them too. It’s as wonderful as you’d hope.

This dad recorded his six-year-old son watching Star Wars: A New Hope for the first time, and if you needed a reminder that this space story about laser swords, evil robot-looking people, strange creatures, and good defeating evil was designed to appeal to kids (and the kid in all of us), this is it.

The son was “totally absorbed,” and asked a lot of questions. No, a lot of questions. Like, 278 questions. He seemed particularly concerned where Luke was, and then just happened to kind of guess the biggest reveal in cinematic history.

Obviously this was as much an experience for the father as it was for the son. If doing this wasn’t enough to make you like this dad, it’s hard not to get behind a fellow Star Wars fan that busts out the “bag of onions” when Obi-Wan’s voice says, “Use the Force, Luke. Let go, Luke.”

I don’t know why that meant I had to have my own “bag of onions” out the entire time I watched this video, though.

What’s your memory of watching Star Wars for the first time? Share it in the comments below.
