Last month, Lionsgate revealed its ambitious plans to create a theme park in South Korea with attractions based on The Hunger Games, Twilight, Now You See Me, and the upcoming Robin Hood remake. But now, fans who don’t want to go overseas to visit the Lionsgate Movie World will have a stateside option in just two years.
Deadline is reporting that Lionsgate is joining forces with Parques Reunidos to create an indoor entertainment center at New York Cityâs Times Square. It’s not quite a theme park, but the early plans include attractions based on The Hunger Games, John Wick, and even a Mad Men-inspired restaurant where you can get your Don Draper on.
John Wick: Chapter 2 is the inspiration behind a shooting ride that pits guests against assassins and other enemies from that world. The Hunger Games is getting “a flying simulator attraction,” while the Divergent franchise will be represented by an obstacle course. The Mad Men restaurant is being described as a “dining and lounge experience,â but we’re far more amused by The Hunger Games-inspired Peetaâs Bakery and The Capitol Confectionery.
Additionally, there are plans for a 4D film and live theater, as well as VR attractions. It was also reported that Lionsgate intends to create more of these entertainment centers around the country and in Europe. The New York location at Times Square is set to open in 2019.
