The Force is Duct-Taped in Low-Budget ‘Sweded’ FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

The Force Awakens budget is massive. Between the cost of making the film and the massive promotional campaign, Disney has invested a lot in the latest Star Wars film. Sure, it’ll all be worth it when the film’s profits are even more massive, but think about how much better their bottom line would look if they had foregone big sets, fancy costumes, grand scores, and CGI, and instead used paper, cardboard, plastic army men, and some humming.

Now we can see exactly how it may have turned out, with the latest fan-made variation for The Force Awakens trailer: an extremely cheap, shot-for-shot recreation that looks like it was made for less than the cost of a couple of tickets and a medium-sized popcorn.

This duct-taped and cardboard box “sweded” version was made by YouTube user Dumb Drum. If you don’t know what “sweded” means, you should immediately watch Be Kind Rewind, because it comes from that great little Michael Gondry film with Jack Black where the characters recreate movies (that were accidentally erased) using low budget techniques. The movies “come from Sweden,” hence the name.

There’s a lot to like in this trailer, but for some reason cardboard Chewbacca especially killed me. I may also just make my own, cheap, homemade BB-8 to drag behind me wherever I go.

If you want to really appreciate the love and care that went into this, Dumb Drum made a side-by-side video with their trailer against the real one.
