THE FORCE AWAKENS Gets an Updated Chronological Trailer

Are you starting to feel like you’ve seen a lot of footage from The Force Awakens? Well, you have, and if you are trying to piece it all together don’t worry, once again the internet has taken care of that for you.

Yet another Star Wars fan has attempted to piece together all known footage from The Force Awakens in the order it will appear in the film. Be warned, this video from YouTube user Disneyland Experience could be considered spoiler-y, but at the very least it raises an interesting question about how much we really need to see from this film before we actually see it.

On November 10, we told you about a trailer that attempted to put all of the released footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens into chronological order. That video runs 3 minutes and 52 seconds, and was made after what was supposed to be the only official trailer for the movie was released, the incredible one with the haunting piano at the start, the one that has led to a million variations.

Today we are bring you another fan-made trailer that attempts to take all of the released footage and place it in sequential order, and it runs 6 minutes and 30 seconds. That’s 2 minutes and 38 seconds of additional footage released in the last month, footage that comes from things like commercials, an international trailer, and more short teaser trailers.

Some have argued that Disney has released too much footage, that they have shown us more than we need to for us to be psyched to see this film. Some even think they have spoiled parts of the movie. On November 9, Nerdist News was already wading into the debate. Yet, here we are a month later with another 2:38 of scenes to analyze when some thought we had too much already.

We don’t need to have the “spoiler debate” here (I’d rather do something more pleasant like stab my eyes out with hot pokers), because everyone feels the way they feel, but it is an interesting conversation to have in regards to what does a studio need to do to entice us to see a film? With Star Wars I’d argue almost nothing, but it does seem at this point like they’ve been overly excessive with not only how much they have shown, but what they have shown. I didn’t really care about this until they showed the shot of Kylo Ren holding his lightsaber to Rey’s throat. That feels like a huge scene, and I would have rather have been stunned by it in the moment as opposed to anticipating it. I have loved the theories and guesses about the plot and relationships in the movie, but I also don’t want to be weighed down by too many expectations. Ultimately I just want to experience the movie on its own, without any baggage beyond “I hope it’s amazing.”

Of course, I realize for some that you don’t care about “spoilers,” and for a film that reportedly runs over two hours we are talking about a small percentage of the movie, but sometimes a brief shot, even a picture, can tell you more than you want to know.

So what do you think? Have we been given too much footage? Not enough? Is there any scene you wish you hadn’t already watched? Let’s discuss it in the comments below
