THE DARKEST MINDS Trailer Sends Superpowered Teens on the Run

In the world of Alexandra Bracken’s The Darkest Minds, teenagers are stricken by a mysterious disease that leaves thousands dead. Those who survive become more than just human, and their powers make them a force to be feared or a commodity to be exploited. But in the first trailer for the upcoming film adaptation, the teens are rising up and becoming an army of their own.

The video also introduces us to Ruby Daly (Amandla Stenberg), a 16-year-old girl who may be among the most powerful of her generation. Ruby and her friends are going to change the world, but not all of them will make it out intact.

The trailer depicts Ruby’s escape from a government “rehabilitation camp” as she begins her travels with Liam (Harris Dickinson), Chubs (Skylan Brooks), and Zu (Miya Cech). Together, they will attempt to stay ahead of a bounty hunter (played by Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie) on the prowl for empowered teens. We also see Liam attempt to court Ruby with a demonstration of his own powers.

Kung Fu Panda veteran Jennifer Yuh Nelson is making her live-action directorial debut with The Darkest Minds, and Stranger Things‘ Shawn Levy is executive producing the film. Along with the trailer, Fox has released the poster for the film, which hints at the importance of Ruby and her friends in the revolution to come.

The Darkest Minds will be released on Friday, August 3.
