We’ve seen a lot of images and heard a lot of news lately about the upcoming film version on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. But in today’s Movie Morsel we find out just when the first footage from the film will make its public debut. Plus, the latest on a Big Lebowski spinoff, the live-action Pokémon movie, and much more!
The Dark Tower
Director Nikolaj Arcelâs adaptation of the bestselling fantasy-western series The Dark Tower is set to have its first footage premiere in Los Angeles, at Entertainment Weeklyâs PopFest. The pop culture festival will run from October 29 to 30, and also feature appearances by James Corden, Ryan Murphy, Anna Faris, the cast of Bob’s Burgers, Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, and more.
Going Places
For some time now, rumors have been circulating that actor John Turturro was planning a Big Lebowski spinoff featuring his character in the cult comedy classic, the egotistical bowler and pederast Jesus Quintana. Now we hear that Turturro’s latest directing project, Going Places, which he’s just started shooting in New York, is in fact his Jesus movie. Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, and Susan Sarandon co-star in the film, which is also being touted as a remake of the 1974 French sex comedy Les Valseuses, about two thieves competing to see who will be the first to bring a woman to orgasm. Sounds like a perfect job for The Jesus…
Pokemon
In the wake of Pokémon-Go‘s massive success, the live-action Pokémon movie is close to finally signing on a pair of screenwriters. Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch are in talks with Legendary to script the film, which reportedly takes its cue from the upcoming game Detective Pikachu. (Editorâs note: Nerdist Industries is a subsidiary of Legendary Digital Networks.)

Surf’s Up: Wavemania
You know what today’s animated films don’t feature nearly enough of? Professional wrestlers. Thankfully, the latest installment in the Surf’s Up series should fix that problem. Surf’s Up: Wavemania stars the voices of WWE Superstars John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, WWE Diva Paige, and Mr. McMahon as a “big-wave-riding crew known as The Hang 5.” Cowabunga! Here’s the film’s teaser trailer…

Zoom
Finally today, one of the quirkier-sounding indie films making the rounds of the festival circuit these days is Zoom. Directed by Pedro Morelli, it stars The Newsroom‘s Alison Pill as “a comic book artist named Emma working in a sex doll factory who gets caught up in her desire to resemble the artificial, plastic fantasy of beauty that she sees everyday. Her only escape lies in a comic book where she controls a dreamy action filmmaker named Edward (Gael Garcia Bernal) who is working [on] a more artistic film about a model named Michelle (Mariana Ximenes), who just happens to be working on a novel about a cartoonist named Emma.” Make sense? I’m afraid the film’s trailer doesn’t clear things up. But it sure looks cool…
