007 Declassified: James Bond Facts You Need to Know

The name is Bond, James Bond. Everyone’s favorite international super-spy–sorry, Jason Bourne — returns to the silver screen this week in Spectre, his twenty-fourth feature film outing. Created by former British naval intelligence officer Ian Fleming, James Bond has been a staple of the international pop culture landscape since 1953. A ladykiller and a killer of men, Bond always manages to save the day and get the girl–usually in increasingly ridiculous ways and with increasingly ridiculous names, respectively. He has been portrayed by six different actors on the big screen. But for a character as monolithic as James Bond, it feels as though we know startlingly little about the man behind the shaken, not stirred martini. So, today on The Dan Cave, we’re going to declassify MI-6’s greatest asset by taking a look at the international man of mystery himself, James Bond. From weird tuxedo-based contract stipulations to Jamaican island estates with golden typewriters, to books about birdwatching, and beyond, James Bond’s weird but true history is about to be revealed.

For an even more in-depth exploration of all things 007, take a gander at Matt Mira and Matt Gourely’s delightfully nerdy foray into the heart of Bondness in the James Bonding podcast.
