THE DAN CAVE: 13 Must-See Christmas Movies to Make Your Holiday Merry

Hey there! Welcome to The Dan Cave! Are you the composer Lowell Mason? Because you’re spreading some serious joy to the world right now.

The holiday season is upon us once again and in between trampling single moms at the mall to get the last Turbo Man figure in stock and hearing the same Michael Buble album on repeat until your ears bleed, you’ll likely be spending some time with friends and family. But what do you do after you’ve stuffed your faces and exhausted your supply of small talk for the year? Well, you could pop in a Christmas movie!

Today on The Dan Cave, I’m running down 13 of the greatest Christmas films ever made in order to help make this one of the holliest, jolliest holidays you’ve had in quite some time. While some classics like It’s a Wonderful Life didn’t make the cut — sorry, Frank Capra — many of them are a little bit left field, so hopefully you’ll be able to spice up your traditional Christmastime queue with some new favorites and old, albeit forgotten, favorites.

What other movies would you add to this list? Let me know in the comments below or tell me on Twitter (@Osteoferocious) using the hashtag #TheDanCave.

Want even more The Dan Cave? Check out last week’s episode in which I offer up a hearty helping of snark with a list of 9 things to hatewatch.

Looking for a last-minute holiday gift? Pick up a The Dan Cave t-shirt!

They’re super soft, very flattering to all body types, and they have already been called the hottest new trend in fashion by GUUUUUUURL, a magazine I just made up.

Great picks Dan. You choose some of my favorites. But what about Jack Frost? You know the horror one where the snowman is a homicidal maniac. Nothing says Christmas like blood and guts.

No love for Santa’s Slay!?! William effeing Goldberg as a homicidal Santa! whats not to love about that?

This is a great list! There are two movies I’d mention. Satoshi Kon’s movie Tokyo Godfathers is my personal favorite. It’s dark at times, but the overall message is so positive and life-affirming. And seeing three bums care for a neglected baby is cinematic gold. Kon died too young, but he left behind some truly remarkable art.

The other movie is Tombstone. While it’s not really a Christmas movie, it was released on Christmas Day in 1993. My new tradition is to watch it Christmas Eve after pan-searing a steak and pouring myself a nice glass of bourbon.
