In the world of cinema there’s not one single party/gathering you’d want to attend less than the prom from director Brian De Palma‘s classic horror movie Carrie, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Sure, if you put aside the whole pig blood bath prank and the ensuing paranormal mass murder incident it was a pretty nice night otherwise, but it’s real hard to overlook all the dead teenagers and so forth. Yet in spite of that–in fact we’d guess because of it–we have a feeling plenty of you will be eager to attend this 40th anniversary cast reunion celebration for the movie that will feature a ’70s-style prom.
We first came across this very cool news at Slashfilm, and this October on Friday the 14, Scream Factory will be throwing a cast reunion panel in Los Angeles, followed by a 1976 era prom. Cast members Piper Laurie, P.J. Soles, and William Katt will be joined by the film’s editor Paul Hirsch and casting director Harriett B. Helberg for a Q&A session hosted by Bryan Fuller (executive producer for Star Trek Beyond).
The event will take place at the Theater at the Ace Hotel in L.A., and, after the panel, attendees of the event will be invited to a prom straight out of the 70s, where guests will be encouraged to dress for the occasion. There will be “a costume contest, photo booth, ‘Bloody Carrie’ cocktails and a live DJ into the evening.” We don’t know if any crazed teenagers with telekinetic abilities will be there to add authenticity, so it’s probably best not to try and pull any pranks at the prom just in case.
Scream Factory and the Ace Hotel are hosting the event with weSpark, a non-profit cancer support group, so your ticket won’t only get you a wholly unique night, but it will also do some real good.
In addition to being a great celebration for the iconic movie (Scariest. Jump. Cut. Ever.), the event will also double as a promotion for the new double-disc special edition of Carrie that will be released by Scream Factory three days prior, on October 11.
There are three tickets you can buy for the event. The general admission ticket is $25 and will get you in for the panel and prom, but for $75 you will also get preferred seating, an exclusive Carrie poster, and the new blu-ray, as well as a photo op, though these tickets are limited. The top tier ticket, also with limited availability, is for $125 and will get you all of those perks, plus a photo with the cast and crew, as well as a private pre-party.
It might seem like a bummer that Sissy Spacek won’t be there for the reunion, but considering what she did at the last prom it is probably best for literally everyone there.
You can purchase your tickets for the event through the Ace Hotel here.
