The Alamo Drafthouse Is Coming to Los Angeles

The city of Los Angeles is home to many things: sunshine, beaches, sushi, burritos… but something it loves most is movies. From the world famous TCL Chinese Theater and Grauman’s Egyptian Theater, to Quentin Tarantino’s historic New Beverly, Los Angeles loves its movie houses. However, there’s one chain the city’s always lacked, and that’s an Alamo Drafthouse. A theater company famous for its strict no cell phone policy and restaurant atmosphere, Alamo has yet to lay claim to a home in the heart of Hollywood. However, that’s all changing, as plans have finally been announced for a Los Angeles-based Alamo Drafthouse that will open its doors in 2015.

According to a report in the LA Times, the chain will set up shop on 7th and Flower in Central LA with a facility that will feature nine screens capable of seating up to 800 people. The building will be part of a redevelopment project named The Bloc. Said project developer Wayne Ratkovich, founder and president of Ratkovich Co, “Alamo Drafthouse has reinvigorated the movie-watching experience, much the way we intend to re-imagine the traditional retail and entertainment experience and enliven the 7th Street corridor with the Bloc.” Drafthouse founder Tim League added, “I thought it would be great to have a home in L.A. for the product that we release.”

This is a perfect addition to theaters like the New Beverly. Nothing says movie love like no cell phones and milkshakes, and that’s exactly what the Austin, TX staple will deliver next year. We sincerely hope the theater doesn’t go the way of the now-scrapped New York City planned expansion to the chain. Given the commitment to this particular development project, the odds of that happening are slim.

The Pecan Porter Milkshake is the best at the Alamo. The Guinness Milkshake pretty good too.

This is the BEST movie theater ever! We love ours in Northern Virginia! I really hate going to any other movie chain now.
