The 8-Bit Version of Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s SIN CITY Is the Video Game without Pity

Grab your trenchcoat and revolver — Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s long-awaited follow-up to their Sin City, is finally in theaters today. And to celebrate, Cinefix has released the latest in their series of 8-Bit Cinema spoofs, based on the filmmakers’ 2005 screen adaptation of Miller’s Eisner Award-winning neo-noir graphic novels.

Creator David Dutton (aided by the music of Henry Dutton) has crafted a surprisingly faithful translation of the anthology film, allowing you to be each of its protagonists. Will you, as John Hartigan (Bruce Willis) rescue Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) from the clutches of “That Yellow Bastard” (Nick Stahl)? Or, as Marv (Michey Rourke), will you get bloody (albeit pixelated) vengeance against Kevin (Elijah Wood) and Cardinal Roark (Rutger Hauer) for the murder of your sweetheart Goldie (Jamie King) in “The Hard Goodbye”? What’s that — you say you prefer to wear the leather jacket and sneakers of Dwight (Clive Owen), and race against the clock to protect Gail (Rosario Dawson) and the prostitutes of Old Town from mob enforcer Manute (Michael Clarke Duncan) in “The Big Fat Kill”? Hey, no need to choose — you can sample the black, white, and red mayhem of all three tales in the video below.

With this weekend’s release of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, here’s hoping Cinefix and 8-Bit Cinema take a return trip to Basin City, especially since the word on the streets is the ladies get a bigger piece of the action this time around, with Alba’s Nancy carving up her own sweet slice of justice. In the meantime, be sure to let us (and Cinefix) know what other movies you’d like to see “gamified.”
