INFINITY WAR’s Thanos Comes to Life in Crazy-Cool Sculpture Time Lapse

For the past half decade, Marvel Studios has teased the arrival of the Mad Titan, Thanos. Casual comic book movie fans may not know much about Thanos, but that’s going to change when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters next month. For now, it’s enough to say Thanos is one of the deadliest villains the Avengers will ever face. And ahead of the movie’s release, one Marvel fan has sculpted Thanos in all of his glory while recording each step along the way. The resulting time lapse video chronicles this creation from beginning to end.

Via ComicBook.com, the sculpture and video were made by Steven Richter, who based Thanos’ likeness on Josh Brolin‘s latest MCU appearance. Thanos’ signature helmet wasn’t included, but it was very fascinating to watch every line on his face take shape within this video. Richter also took a meticulous approach to crafting Thanos’ armor while using the limited reference material. Each piece of the armor was painstakingly detailed and put back together in their finished form.

Thanos’ eyes could easily be overlooked in this piece of art, and they were the least convincing component when Richter painted them outside of the bust. However, the effect was completely different once he added the eyes to Thanos’ sculpture. The finished face effectively captures Brolin’s likeness as Thanos. As an added touch, the eyes even glow when activated.
