Telltale and Mojang Reveal MINECRAFT: STORY MODE

Better start sharpening your diamond pickaxes because something tells me you’re going to need all the help you can get in 2015.

Today, Telltale Games and Minecraft developer Mojang have announced a brand new partnership to create an episodic adventure game series called Minecraft: Story Mode. Set in the world of Minecraft, the game is not merely an add-on for Minecraft, but rather an entire separate stand-alone product. The narrative-driven series is set to release on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, computers, and mobile devices in 2015.

In order to make the game “as Minecrafty as possible,” Mojang said that they will be collaborating with both Telltale and members of the community to ensure that the experience is one that long-time fans of the series will love. They also noted, however, that this will not be an “‘official’ story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail.” Rather, it will simply be “a cool game.”

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Telltale Games continues to bag some seriously impressive licenses. Coming on the heels of The Walking Dead, Fables, Game of Thrones, and Borderlands, this Minecraft partnership is yet another feather in the developer’s increasingly impressive cap. Minecraft: Story Mode, along with the remainder of Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, will fill out Telltale’s already exciting 2015 slate. Now, here’s hoping that after causing them to unceremoniously explode, the Creepers won’t remember that.
