The newest season of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series premiered this past weekend, and it has some familiar voices joining the heroes in a half-shell. Big ones, too. Like former Doctor Who starâand current Jessica Jones villainâDavid Tennant is along for the ride as Fugoid, an alien robot that acts as the turtles’ temporary Splinter-replacement while they jet-set through the cosmos. Yes, this season has the turtles in space, but for good reason: Earth has been destroyed. Naturally, there are mild spoilers ahead.
Last season ended on a rather grim note for the turtles as their beloved master Splinter was stabbed and killed, and the Earth was completely destroyedâkilling off humanity as we know it. Looks like the “little-kids-show” title doesn’t stick too well to this franchise anymore. Now, the turtles will spend this season cruising universe having alien run-ins, like with a race of aliens known as the Salamandarians.
This race of anthropomorphic salamanders will feature the vocal work of Zelda Williamsâdaughter to Robin Williamsâas Mona Lisa, and veteran actor Keith David playing the Sal Commander. Lucy Lawless, best known as Xena: Warrior Princess and from the upcoming Ash vs. Evil Dead series, has also been cast, though her character has yet to be revealed.
