TEEN TITANS Live-Action Series Officially Dead at TNT

It was a little over a year ago that superhero fans everywhere jumped for joy after it was announced that cable network TNT was producing a pilot based on the long running DC Comics series Teen Titans–simply titled Titans. The show was going to focus on Dick Grayson, who was getting out of the shadow of his mentor Batman and ditching the Robin persona to become Nightwing. Eventually, we learned exclusive information that the line-up of characters for this series was going to include long standing members like Raven, Starfire, Hawk and Dove, and in a departure from the comics, Barbara Gordon as Oracle.

And then, there was radio silence on this project for almost a year. All while other DC superhero shows got the greenlight like Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Now, TNT president Kevin Reilly, while at TCA, has confirmed that the show is dead at his network, stating “ we decided it wasn’t where we wanted to go.” The previous arrangement at TNT had ordered the series to pilot, and just last May, Reilly previously told TV Line “I think it’s going to end up being a very, very interesting offering. I think it’s going to be excellent.” Obviously, somewhere along the line, he had a change of heart.

Of course, Titans could be shopped to another network. It seems like a perfect fit for the CW. Or maybe parent company Warner Brothers has much bigger plans for the Titans? It wasn’t very long ago that a rumor surfaced about the Cyborg solo film, which is scheduled to premiere in April of 2020, has morphed into a Teen Titans movie. If the Titans TV series is a no-go, then maybe we’ll see Nightwing, Starfire and Raven join Cyborg on the big screen instead. In any event, I doubt this is the last we’ll hear about the Teen Titans appearing in live-action. It’s simply too big a property to just sit on the shelf for too long.

What do you think of this news? Are you bummed that there isn’t going to be a TV series, or would you rather hold out for a big budget Titans movie? Let us know in the comments!
