Rumor: Details on Possible TEEN TITANS and GREEN LANTERN CORPS Movies Emerge

It’s been awhile since there’s been any news about the proposed Teen Titans television series for the TNT network, leading many fans to wonder if development on the show has been cancelled. Now a new rumor has surfaced that suggests that the Titans might in fact be coming to the big screen instead.

While talking about Warner Brothers’ commitment to bring diversity to their DC Comics film properties, such as their current plans for both Aquaman and his wife Mera to be cast with non-white actors, the folks at JoBlo revealed that they’ve heard that the Cyborg solo film, which has a release date of 2020, has morphed into a Teen Titans team-up movie instead.

For longtime fans of the character, this news makes total sense if true. Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg, has almost zero history as a solo hero, mostly appearing over the last thirty years as a member of the Teen Titans, both in the comics and on the animated TV series. Cyborg’s teammates have included characters like Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy, all characters who could also be portrayed by ethnically diverse actors.

This lines up with other recent rumors that Warner Brothers was planning on introducing Black Canary as a member of the Justice League first, only to spin her off into a Birds of Prey movie down the line, featuring Canary and other prominent female DC heroes as her teammates. Warners could be taking a similar tactic with Cyborg, by introducing him first as a the junior member of the League, only to shine a bigger spotlight on him as he gathers his own team of young heroes together.

According to the same report, Justice League would also be used a springboard to spin-off Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan into a Green Lantern Corps reboot film, which is being described as a “Lethal Weapon in space team-up,” a kind of interstellar buddy cop movie. While right now it’s unknown if the Justice League movie would feature Hal Jordan or John Stewart as the team’s resident GL, the Green Lantern Corps movie would certainly feature both of them prominently. In addition, an LGBT hero is said to be part of one of these films, although who this could be remains a mystery.

All of this, of course, would likely hinge on the success or failure of both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as the upcoming Suicide Squad. But if both of these are the hits that Warner Brothers hopes for, expect a slew of other team-up style superhero films with diverse casts to be hitting the big screen very soon.
