We Talked Superman’s Past, Present, and Future with KRYPTON’s Shaun Sipos

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a comic book! And another movie! And a new TV show! That’s right it’s Superman, who looks amazing for someone who just turned 80. On Wednesday’s super episode of Nerdist News Talks Back we paid tribute to the Man of Steel with a show entirely dedicated to his legacy, and who better to help us discuss the character’s past, present, and future than Krypton‘s very own time traveling Adam Strange, Shaun Sipos.

Host Jessica Chobot was joined today by editor Dan Casey and producer Kate Meyers, and they welcomed special guest Shaun Sipos, one of the star’s Syfy’s Superman prequel series Krypton. With the famous superhero in the red cape turning 80 (he debuted in Action Comics #1 on April 18, 1938, and issue #1000 hit stores Wednesday), they started with what the character has meant to them personally. What are their favorite Superman moments? And what weird fact about Clark Kent from the latest episode of The Dan Cave did Dan find most surprising?

But when it comes to bringing him to life, which cinematic or television version of the character is our favorite? What is it about Superman that makes his story so appealing to film and TV audiences?

Finally it was time to hear from Shaun about Krypton and his character, the only human on the show. He travels back in time from Earth to warn Superman’s ancestors about those who hope to destroy him by destroying his Kryptonian family in the past. He told us about what to expect from the series and Adam Strange–like how his character deals with the burden of knowing the future.

Don’t forget Nerdist News Talks Back airs live Monday through Thursday at 1PM PT on our YouTube and Alpha channels. Then we wrap up the week in entertainment with Nerdist News What the Fridays at 1PM PT, exclusively at Alpha. We’re not faster than a speeding bullet, or more powerful than a locomotive, and we definitely can’t leap tall buildings in a single bound…but we do love to talk about the superhero who can.

What does Superman mean to you? What’s your favorite memory of the character? It would be super to hear your thoughts in our comments section below.
