Super-Fan Builds Creates Disney Pixar’s UP! Dog House

It’s true that our animals get the best of us, and in the case of Steve Minty’s dog Dug, they get the best of Steve, his best friend Estaban Gomez, and the supremely talented builders at Tim Baker Creations. Gomez submitted his super-fan best friend to Super-Fan Builds, a biweekly YouTube show that brings together Hollywood set makers and fans. Tim Baker and his dedicated crew heard the story and designed a picture-perfect replica of the house from Disney Pixar‘s UP for Dug the dog to call home.

The level of detail in this gorgeous floating dog house is unreal. There are more than 2900 individual shingles between the roof and the siding. The colors are matched as perfectly as possible when pulling inspiration from the screen. Even the ratio of dirt and grass beneath the home was calculated and replicated with rosen as closely as the builders could figure. And the floating balloon cluster that reminds Dug that adventure is out there? It was made of a mold created from over 750 individually placed plastic eggs.

Thanks to unique design of the movie’s house, everything was hand painted and given the little pieces of individuality that makes the UP story so special. There’s even a tiny hose attached to the house and a lovely sculpture of Carl in the front window. The only detail we missed watching this episode was a tiny mailbox for the fence, but given the floating nature of the house, we’re guessing it was already gone. Plus, we’re not sure we could have contained the tears if we’d seen its recreation here.

According to their YouTube site, Super-Fan Builds brings together Hollywood’s top prop makers to build one-of-a-kind items for fans of comic books, video games, movies and pop culture. They take submissions for future stories at [email protected] so if you know someone who would appreciate one of their creations, definitely send them an idea. We’d love to see what Nerdist fans can inspire!
