Super Bowl Spot for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES Is Accursed Fun

It’s funny how a franchise that seems like it’ll never die is now filled with more undead characters than living ones. The Super Bowl spot for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales shows them all off in what appears to be a CGI zombie pirate-filled romp through some serious action…again.

The trailer, which is surprisingly lacking the major chunk of Johnny Depp you’d expect from the franchise, is filled to the brim with excitement. With a fair amount of returning characters developed over the last… 57 or so films…we’re really hoping we don’t have to sit through too much new character exposition and are just given a few happy hours full of fun explosions and action sequences. Of those few new faces, we’ll meet Javier Bardem‘s ultra creepy (and a little too CGI flowy) Capitán Salazar who will act as the film’s main antagonist. And, if we know our Pirates movies, Salazar will likely have a bone to pick with Jack Sparrow.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales–or “POTC:DMTNT” as we’re not calling it–will also see the return of Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner. The trailer shows him all sorts of barnacle-faced so we can only assume he’s still involved with the Flying Dutchman and their un-dead crew. Man oh man, how many undead pirate crews are out there in the world? We’ve gotten a new one each movie, right?

Also, here’s a new poster:
