In just a few days, Keanu Reeves will reprise the title role of John Wick: Chapter 2, and yeah, we’re thinking that he’s back! But the assassin formerly known as “Baba Yaga” isn’t running unopposed as he heads into Valentine’s Day weekend. Lucky for John Wick, he has more than one way to take out a target, as demonstrated in the newly released Super Bowl trailer.
With an obvious eye towards Fifty Shades Darker, the latest John Wick: Chapter 2 trailer invites moviegoers to “slip into something a shade darker,” with music and an editing style that could have been easily mistaken for the film that it was spoofing. But from there, the trailer features several action clips from the movie, including a glimpse of Laurence Fishburne’s new character, the Bowery King. There are even a few standout sequences in which John Wick takes his car-fu fighting skills to the next level, even though he comes out looking a bit like roadkill himself.
Most of the story details for the sequel are still under wraps, but we do know that John Wick will once again be forced out of retirement before being drawn into a deadly plan to seize control of an international assassins’ guild. Suffice to say, there will be no shortage of enemies for John to fight!
John Wick: Chapter 2 will open this Friday, February 10.
