The STRANGER THINGS Soundtrack Gets a Cassette Tape Release

At this point, we’ve pretty much run out of nice things to say about Stranger Things, so we’re going to re-hash an old point: The Netflix hit’s soundtrack, by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of synthwave group S U R V I V E, is pretty darn good. It perfectly captures the vibe of ’80s horror movies but in a modern way. We’ve already seen the show’s score released digitally, on CD, and on vinyl, and soon, it’s going to come out on the only format from the era that’s still around today at least in some capacity: cassette tape.

Lakeshore Records

That’s coming out on July 14 via Lakeshore Records, and if you want to snag a copy for yourself, you’ll have to head to your local Urban Outfitters, because that’s the only place that’s going to be selling it. It looks like this release is going to be worth the trip, though, because it just looks so darn cool: Once you slide the cardboard slipcase off, the plastic cassette case looks like a VHS tape.

You remember, those things that used to get jammed in your VCR until you pulled them out and rewound the tape back in with a pair of scissors? The cassette itself is also a very slick-looking translucent red, so all in all, this is excellent packaging.
