Step Up Your Lunch Game with a Gameboy-Style Bento Box

The Fowndry, a UK-based web-store of geeky and fun items, will soon be offering a fun throwback for lovers of classic gaming. The Gamebox Lunchbox is a bento-style lunchbox designed to resemble the beloved Nintendo Gameboy that so many of us wore out, never putting them down.

Of course, as the name itself would suggest, the Gamebox is not an officially licensed Nintendo product, and I am sure it is the threat of legal issues that lead to the slight design changes here and there on the box. In fact, I am fairly certain that none of the handheld systems that actually carried the “Gameboy” name on them had more than two A and B buttons. Authenticity of the design, however, is not the point of the box: it is to hold your lunch and look cool doing so.

Just in case anyone reading does not know, a bento box is a bit different the lunchbox you may own. Bento is a tradition that originated in Japan, and usually involves a small boxed meal consisting of rice, fish, and vegetables, or sushi in more modern instances. There is a whole sub-culture surrounding the practice, and it’s well worth looking into. While many Americans are used to lunchboxes that fold open and hold a thermos, a bento box tends to be smaller and thicker due to the stacking compartments used to separate food items.

The Gamebox will not be available for purchase until September, so be sure to do the conversion from dollars to pounds now and be prepared for overseas shipping.
