Has it really been 25 years since Bethesda gave us a new IP? The original and best masters of first-person changed the gaming world with Castle Wolfenstein and Doom, and blasted it with Fallout before notably taking arrows to the knee in Skyrim. But it’s time they showed us something fresh to blow our minds again, and, well…let’s just say we don’t hate Sundays.
We’ve known for a while that something was coming called Starfield, because of a patent filing leak. Now we know it is a single-player action game. But we’ve also heard rumors that it would be a game to connect the Bethesda-verse, and include the worlds of both Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. That would be pretty epic, and give us a the closest we’re ever likely to see to a Krull game. The Beast and the Black Fortress could totally have come from a post-nuke world, right?
At the moment, though, all we have is a brief trailer that evokes 2001: A Space Odyssey. And yet we have a creeping suspicion it will be a lot more violent, and faster-paced. Gamers don’t want to spend whole levels jogging around in a zero-gravity circle.
Right now, there’s a lot of room for guesswork–call this reveal “Starfield Without Starfield,” if you like. What do you think Starfield will bring? Let us know with your comments.
