STARCRAFT II: NOVA COVERT OPS Announced for Spring 2016

Can we acknowledge how epic November 10 is going be? Fallout 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void will all be available this upcoming Tuesday. It’s going to be one insane day. Well, if you’re a fan of the latter of the three, like myself, then you’ll be happy to know that more content–in the form of StarCraft II: Nova Covert Ops–is coming to StarCraft in spring 2016. These will be mission packs that start off with 3 real-time strategy missions coming in June of next year. Peep the announcement trailer above.

The story seems to revolve around the character, Nova Terra, who is a Terran Ghost. In an interview with Polygon, Blizzard‘s Chris Sigaty had the following to say about the story:

“We’re focusing on a story that’s a little more intimate, a little darker in tone. We’ve been so focused on the galactic conflict [in StarCraft] and the galactic story. We’d like to explore something a little bit closer to home.”

I’m all in on this approach because the world and universe of StarCraft II is so expansive, and filled with a ton of interesting characters that really deserve to be further explored. I personally believe the stories told in these games are extremely underrated, and it would behoove Blizzard to get more fans excited for the lore, especially if they plan on making films or television series about this franchise with the newly minted film team, Activision Blizzard Studios.

This also means more RTS fun, so that’s definitely a win for the fans. It’s not clear how many mission packs will be released over the next year, but it’s good to know Legacy of the Void won’t be the last batch of story content we get. I had the pleasure of interviewing lead producer, Tim Morton, about the upcoming expansion here.

What do you think about these mission packs? Will you be buying Legacy of the Void this Tuesday? Let us know in the comments below.
